I learnt yesterday that my blogging friend Natasha from 5 Minutes Just For Me in Australia who I have been linking up with for Sunday Song for over a year now is closing down her blog for at least the foreseeable future. At first I thought she was playing an April Fools joke on her many followers but sadly this is not the case. Thanks for hosting the Sunday Song Linky Party Natasha it was fun and I will miss listening to your choices.

The Italian artist whose music I am sharing with you this week is Adelmo Fornaciari more commonly known as Zucchero Fornaciari was born in Reggio Emilia, Italy on 25th September 1955. Zucchero or Sugar which is the English translation of his name is a rock singer taking his inspiration not only from rock but gospel and blues music as well singing both ballads and more lively songs. He has been popular for over three decades not only in Italy but all over the world having sold over 40 million records.
Zucchero has one unusual hobby in that he collects hats, owning a collection of over 350 and claiming never to leave home without one, probably true if my photo gallery of him is anything to go by.
His latest album Chocabeck 2011 was released in November last year and went straight to number one in the Italian album charts. This summer he is on tour visiting many different countries, Switzerland, Uk, France and Austria, just to name a few, visit the link Chocabeck 2011 for the list of tour dates and venues.

I also thought that it was an April Fool's joke on Natasha's part, and I particularly went back in and checked the date of her post (March 31st) before I wrote my own blog post. Hope you're having a relaxing weekend over there in Italy.

ReplyDeleteToo bad about Natasha's blog, but I understand. Blogs take on a life of their own and when it stops being fun, then it is time to do something else. But it is like losing a friend!

ReplyDeleteI also love that you take the time to post both the Italian and English lyrics for each song...it really helps me improve my Italian vocabulary - something I am always trying to do! Ironically, "zucchero" happens to be be one of my favorite Italian words! Grazie!
I'm not a fan of April Fools... it just requires a lot of effort to work out which things are jokes!! But maybe I'm just boring ;)

I love listening to songs in another language and not know what the words mean...it makes me pay more attention to the melody and feel of the song.

Twenty years ago, in Russia, Zucchero was super-popular, just like many other Italian musicians. I remember listening to his songs over and over. Thank you for your post.

As you know, he lives in Lunigiana, Northern Tuscany, and the town of Pontremoli bestowed a special honour on him on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Italian Unification to thank him for his contributions to the local community. He is very generous. Also, he is going on tour again - the first time in ages.
