Last year in readiness for the next chapter in our life
adventure we put the house on the market to sell. Since moving to Italy we have
done up and sold two properties which has kept us very busy and also been great
fun. We had decided though that in the future we would like to be able to do
more travelling including spending sometime every year in the UK. With the
olive grove and various fruit trees in the large garden which was almost a full
time commitment this was just not going to be possible. It was time therefore
to move to a more manageable property and hopefully the next one will be in the
centre of Marta so that we do not have to get in the car every time we need to
do something. Even a trip to the rubbish bins entails getting in the car if you
live in rural Italy.
In November we set off for the UK planning to spend a few months
renovating a property we had purchased in Wales. We were very excited as prior
to our departure we had accepted an offer on the house here with plans for
completion at the end of March 2013. This fitted in perfectly with our
intention of being back in Italy by the end of February to sort everything out for
the sale. However as the saying goes, the best laid plans!
Life started to go horribly wrong for us when just a few weeks
after arriving in Wales my husband was admitted to hospital. What we had
thought was a severe bout of gastric sickness turned out to be much more
serious, involving three months in hospital and major surgery. Thanks to the extreme
kindness of friends and family in Italy and the UK we were able to push ahead
with the sale of the Italian house and it was all completed just before Easter.
My husband also came out of hospital on the same day so we can
at least start planning the next Italian and other adventures. Although we are
going to need to be patient with regards to our return to Italy in search of
the next property to purchase as we need to get him fit first. We have a long
road to recovery ahead of us after all he has been through.
Many of you followed the renovation project here on the blog but
just in case you didn't and would like to see some of the work we did I have
included links back to the various posts.
Renovation Project photos can also be viewed at Flickr if you
are interested in seeing more photos of the work as it progressed.
We are not going to be back in Italy yet awhile so I am not
going to be writing any more posts about our life in Lazio until we do return
for the next chapter of our Italian adventure. I cannot write about day to day
life when I am not there to experience it sadly, although maybe I will be able
to share other news from the region from time to time.
I will continue to share photos and posts from friends on my FB
News From Italy page and if you would like to keep in touch with our life
adventures you can do so via my other blogs. LindyLouMac's World in Photos and Travel Tales Also of course if you enjoy books I would love to welcome you to LindyLouMac's Book Reviews.
So sorry to read this post, I hope all is going well and your husband makes a full recovery. Italy will wait for you...
ReplyDeleteWith my very best wishes to you both, stay well, stay positive, and make the most of every moment where you are.

ReplyDeleteAll the best for the new chapter, Lindy.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to updates, regardless where they come from.
Greetings from Denmark, Dorthe
Dearest Lindy, I'm so sorry about your husband and wish him a fast and full recovery. Hope that your great property plan will come true!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning, Lindy! First of all, I would like to wish your husband a speedy recovery (he should be well on the way, by now!)
ReplyDeleteIf you remember, I told about our project (buying a town house in Modugno (Bari-Italy) where my sisters live. Well,we completed before Christmas and are moving there next month, though we will still have a home here, where I will need to come and spend some time, during the year. But mostly, we will be there. It's a lovely house on 3 levels, with two terraces, balconies and a nice town garden, at the back. It's exciting!
I hope you actually return to Italy, as it is a wonderful place to live. In the meantime, your priority is your husband.
I wish you luck and happiness.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear of your troubles!! Hugs and prayers to you both, and I hope your husband is feeling much, much better now. I cannot imagine Italy without you, so do please try to hurry back when you're both able to! Hugs!!!
ReplyDeleteI am glad that the sale has all gone through for you and all at least seems to be going in the right direction. What happened to the place you had in Italy that you rented out? Have you sold that as well?. I think of you very often, take care and have a good week Diane xx
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear of your problems and very glad to hear your husband is recovering well. I'm sure you'll be back on your Italian path when the time is right for you both. Warm wishes, Catherine-in-Veneto
ReplyDeleteGood luck in your ventures, whether they be in Wales, Italy or both. The main thing is that your husband recovers his strength.
ReplyDeleteWill keep 'tuning in' and enjoying your tales and beautifyl photographs.
Very best wishes, Gaynor
I am sorry to hear things have not turned out quite as planned but maybe now that your husband is out of hospital you can begin to plan the next stage of your journey together.
ReplyDeleteHope your husband is doing well. It seems like life is always moving us here or there. I took a few minutes to go back and see the links you had about the renovations. It sure was a lot of work! I will take a look at the link about books and wait till you continue your adventures here again. It was interesting to hear that even to go the trash bin one has to get into a car in rural Italy. I like to hear real life things like that. Have a good week Linda and wishing you and your family happiness and good health!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad he's finally on the mend. It must be bittersweet to say goodbye to your lovely house.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to hearing more about your adventures.
Ann

ReplyDeleteSo glad the house sale has been sorted and delighted to hear that David is now picking up. Sounds like a corner has been turned and you are both now on the way up again. Thoughts with you both. xxxx
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear of the health issues you husband has endured. Praying that he will fit very soon. It is good that the sale was consummated. That is one think checked off.
ReplyDeletePrayers for you both, Ginger
Lindy, please excuse all of my typos. I can't type as rapidly as I can think. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
