Saturday Snapshots – Our Kiwi Harvest

Early December is the time we have our last harvest of the year the Kiwi’s. Those of you that have been reading my ‘Our Garden’ posts since the Spring will have seen photos of the Kiwi vines as the season progressed and they gradually grew to become these impressive looking fruits.

We picked them this year a few days ago and my other half reckons there are about 50 kilos of kiwi’s for us to enjoy over the winter. In fact they will be kept in our cool dark cellar and last us right through until early summer.  We eat the majority of them fresh, although a little kiwi jam always goes down well with my sister and family.

These photos can also be viewed individually in My Flickr Album Our Kiwi Harvest 2011

I have also linked up these photos today with Saturday Snapshot by Alyce at At Home With Books. Do call by if you are interested in viewing more snapshots or to add your own.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

  19. Lovely images, Lindy! Italian kiwis are axported all over the world, but, like for everything else, the best are kept in Italy. Kiwis in Italy are really big and beautiful! Maybe because they get a chance to be ripened by the sun.

Next Summer we must work on our garden, in Italy. I now have several cacti (prickly pears) plants (I just picked them up here and there-my husband was shocked!) and gave them a good home!I love eating prickly pears!

I love the way you love and look after your "slice" of my country!

  32. I didn't know you grew Kiwi. It's one of my favorite fruits. My grandmother introduced them to me when I was a kid and whenever I came up to visit she would have some for her and me. They are delicious. Craving one now! Hugs.

  39. Those look good! I like to keep a few kiwi in the frig because they really do keep well..when I'm out of other fresh fruit and haven't had time to go to the store, there they always are waiting patiently to be used.

  48. That's so terrific that you will be eating kiwis well into the spring. When we lived in BC's Okanagan Valley, our cool room was filled to the rafters with so many kinds of fruit and jars of canned fruit. Now our cool room holds only potatoes and is used for storage. Have a good week Lindy!

  50. Whenever I read of all the things you grow/harvest I feel like life in London really isn't that great... 50kg of Kiwis is impressive and I'd be in the kitchen making jams and tarts :-) Love that photo collage, they're really nice shots. Hope you finally have some time to relax now ;-) xo

  51. Kiwis? How did I miss that you grow kiwis? I love them!

  53. I have never seen a lichee tree before! I do so LOVE eating that wonderful, juicy green fruit. What a large harvest you had. Aren't you lucky???

  54. I MUST plant me a kiwi vine! I love the fruit and can never get enough of it. I've done other work in the garden, but having a structure built for the kiwi to grow on didn't happen this year. I'll have to move it to the top of the list for 2012. Do you know how old your vine is, and its variety? Somehow, I think I might have asked you these same questions a year or two ago. I've been thinking about a kiwi for a while. Thanks for sharing those photos. They are my inspiration!
