Buona Pasqua - Happy Easter

In celebration of  Easter I would like to wish all my family, friends and followers an enjoyable and peaceful time. We will not be with our family but we will be thinking of them, one daughter on holiday in Sri Lanka, the other in Salisbury, my sister in Wales, her sons, one holidaying in Peru, my husbands family in the UK and the rest of our extended families who live all around the world, far too many to mention them all. To each and everyone of you reading this or not we wish you a.......

With thanks to Cartoline di Pasqua for the Pasqua images above.

For those of you that have not been reading News From Italy for very long, I have posted about Easter in previous years, including some beautiful music and videos. I am including links to some of my previous posts, with a brief explanation of the information you will find if you visit them.

Giovedi Santo - Maundy Thursday
On this morning this the Pope carries out a mass known as 'Mass of the Chrism', in St Peter's Basilica. The chrism is a mixture of balsam and olive oil that is used in some of the sacraments after it has been blessed.  I am not a member of the Roman Catholic Church but of the Church of England, but this post I hope does explain a little of what happens in the few days prior to Easter Sunday in the Roman Catholic church

Venerdi Santo - Good Friday
Good Friday is not a Bank Holiday here in Italy as it is very much considered a day of mourning. The Roman Catholic Church treats Good Friday as a fast day, normally in the one main meal only fish is eaten.
This post also includes a video showing one of the many Venerdi Santo Processions that take place in the evening.  We have witnessed a number now in various towns and I find they are very emotional occasions.

Sunday Song - Easter Sunday - Domenica di Pasqua
Amedeo Minghi, an Italian singer songwriter with his beautiful rendition of ‘Gerusalemme’  'Jerusalem' a piece commissioned by the Vatican on the occasion of the 'Jubilee 2000'.

Buona Pasqua - Happy Easter
Last year I posted a general update of the Easter festivities saying that our thoughts were with all our family, friends both real and virtual where ever they were in the world for a Buona Pasqua – Happy Easter.

Enjoy the Spring/Autumn Break for Easter, may it be peaceful and happy.

With thanks to the Graphics Fairy

  1. My goodness. You have quite an international family. I think my husband's family is spread out, yet they all live in the US. Happy Easter to you, too.

  2. Wishing you a lovely Easter too.

  3. Good post to pass on your Easter wishes to everyone Linda. I wish you and your family a very happy, peaceful and blessed Easter. See you again soon x

  4. A very HAPPY EASTER to you and your family and friends too!! I hope your weather is better than ours. I have been out with my daughter and Harry and my brother and wife today and it was quite cold!! Glad to get home to the central heating.Going to look at all the links you have posted for Easter.
    Love Jackie in Surrey, UK.x

  5. Hello:
Easter in Hungary is celebrated much in the way in which you describe it in Italy, in the Roman Catholic tradition, and where Good Friday is also not a public holiday. Of course here, for nearly fifty years, the churches if not actually closed were completely neglected and so it is so joyous to see a return to normality.

We wish you too a blessed Eastertide.

  6. Happy Easter Linda. We will go to church on Sunday and then putter in our garden as usual. Good Friday in the USA is not a holiday either. The kids are out of school in this area but it is spring break which coincides with the Masters golf tournament which is here.

  7. I am surprised to learn that Good Friday is not a bank holiday in Italy.

    Enjoy the Easter weekend.

  8. My dear friend
Thank you for your good wishes!
In Greece, Easter is next week.
I wish you, in your family, wherever they are, a happy and joyful Easter!
    Many greetings and kisses

  13. What a happy day. Have a great weekend. :)

  14. All is quiet here, as most places are closed, so there is not a sound from down at the road *bliss*
Happy Easter to you too, and may it be a peaceful one.

  15. Buona Pasqua, Lindy! We are having snow for this weekend! I'll be thinking of you in the sunshine.

  16. Buona Pasqua ! Good Friday is not a bank holiday in Belgium neither (only for the Banks, really, lol) We will celebrate in Amsterdam, I prepared little baskets with Easter bunnies and eggs for little Toby.

    Happy Easter to you too!

  24. Buona Pasqua! What lovely images and thank you for the Italian music! I always appreciate your posts and links with those!

  25. Happy Easter to you too. Religious holidays are valued so much more in Italy than they sadly are here in the U.S.

  26. Happy Easter to you and yours!

  27. Buona Pasqua - I've learned another Italian phrase... hope you had a wonderful Easter!

  28. ¡Feliz Pascua!

Am in the midst of exploring your blogs after seeing your photo on the Retirement Chronicle's monthly competition (bellissimo!), and I'm intrigued by the Holy Week celebrations in Italy! So I'll go see those posts you just linked to.

I wonder how different they are from the celebrations of Semana Santa here in Spain... it changes a bit from place to place, but usually the big deal are the Procesiones which take place most days between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday. They're much more impressive in the small towns than the cities, but they're present almost everywhere in the country this time of the year... if you're interested I've been blogging about them on my travel blog:
    Introduction to the Semana Santa

And just the link to the posts with the label "semana santa":

  29. Hope you have had a lovely Easter. Here the weather is quite wintry again......

  30. What a beautiful Easter post! Linda.
I hope you had a wonderful Easter!

  31. Lovely post, Lindy Lou. I hope you had a happy and peaceful Easter. Being Greek Orthodox, our family will celebrate Easter this week...

  32. Wonderful Easter impressions. I like the old Easter Card. Do beautiful !
Have a nice day, Linda. Kind regards, Synnöve

  33. Thank you for wishing us all a wonderful Easter in this lovely way. I enjoyed it all. I hope you had a wonderful, blessed Easter also! I loved the link to your Travel Tales...wonder if you realize you still have Word Verification on there. It must be delightful to get to travel and see family and friends in many different places. I would love to go to Wales! All my best!

  34. I hope you had a wonderful Easter.

  35. I hope you had a beautiful holiday! We had a quiet one, but very nice.

  36. This post was probably from last year but since Easter is coming up, we will all be pretty busy for Easter activities. Hence here's expressing my warm easter wishes to all! Have a great Easter!
