I learnt yesterday that my blogging friend Natasha from 5 Minutes Just For Me in Australia who I have been linking up with for Sunday Song for over a year now is closing down her blog for at least the foreseeable future. At first I thought she was playing an April Fools joke on her many followers but sadly this is not the case. Thanks for hosting the Sunday Song Linky Party Natasha it was fun and I will miss listening to your choices.
I did not post yesterday so no April Fools jokes from me, however if you are interested I did write a post last year about the different take on April 1st here in Italy. Pesce d'Aprile - April Fools Day in Italy
The Italian artist whose music I am sharing with you this week is Adelmo Fornaciari more commonly known as Zucchero Fornaciari was born in Reggio Emilia, Italy on 25th September 1955. Zucchero or Sugar which is the English translation of his name is a rock singer taking his inspiration not only from rock but gospel and blues music as well singing both ballads and more lively songs. He has been popular for over three decades not only in Italy but all over the world having sold over 40 million records.
Zucchero has one unusual hobby in that he collects hats, owning a collection of over 350 and claiming never to leave home without one, probably true if my photo gallery of him is anything to go by.
His latest album Chocabeck 2011 was released in November last year and went straight to number one in the Italian album charts. This summer he is on tour visiting many different countries, Switzerland, Uk, France and Austria, just to name a few, visit the link Chocabeck 2011 for the list of tour dates and venues.
The song I have chosen today is from the recent album. There are others I like on the album but I will save them for another week.

Ho visto gente sola andare via, sai
Tra le macerie i sogni di chi spera, vai
Tu sai di me lo so di te
Ma il suono della domenica
Dov’è
Al mio paese
Vedo fiorire il grano
Ha braccia tese,
Verso l’eternit
Il mio paese
Ho visto cieli pieni di miseria, sai
E ho visto fedi false fare solo guai
Che sai di noi
Che sai di me
Ma il suono della domenica
Dov’è
Al mio paese
Vedo falciare il grano,
Ha mani tese,
verso l’eternit
Il mio paese
Ti lascerò un sorriso, ciao
E rabbia nuova in viso, ciao
La tenerezza che, ciao
Fa il cuore in gola a me
Al mio paese
è ancora giallo il grano,
Ha braccia tese
Verso l’eternit
Il mio paese
Al mio paese
Vedo fiorire il buono
Le botte prese
Non le hanno rese mai
Al mio paese
Che suono fa la Domenica
Da te
Lyrics in English translated at Zucchero's Official Website with the help of Google Translate and my dictionary.
I've seen lonely people go, you know
Among the ruins the dreams of those who wait, go
You know me I know you
But the sound of Sunday
Where
In my country
I see the wheat blossom
He held out his arms,
Towards the eternity
My country
I have seen sky full of misery, you know
And I've seen nothing but trouble making false beliefs
What do you know about us
What do you know me
But the sound of Sunday
Where
In my country
I mow the wheat
He hands out,
towards eternity
My country
I'll leave you a smile, hello
And new anger in the face, hello
The tenderness, hello
It makes me gasp
In my country
is still yellow corn,
He stretched his arms
Towards the eternity
My country
In my country
I see the good flourish
The beatings took
Do not you have ever made
In my country
What sound does the Sunday
From you

another Australian blog that I started linking up with fairly recently, she posts two songs, something old and something new.
Buono Domenica Tutti
Zucchero was my favorite when I was young, kinda 20 years ago (((OO)))
ReplyDeleteGood to see that you are carrying on with the Sunday Song tradition, Linda! I also thought that it was an April Fool's joke on Natasha's part, and I particularly went back in and checked the date of her post (March 31st) before I wrote my own blog post. Hope you're having a relaxing weekend over there in Italy.
ReplyDeleteI truly enjoyed this song. I appreciate that you take the time to write out the lyrics in Italian and English. I like to listen to the video while reading the English translation. It helps me "hear" the language!
ReplyDeleteToo bad about Natasha's blog, but I understand. Blogs take on a life of their own and when it stops being fun, then it is time to do something else. But it is like losing a friend!
Hi Lindylou thanks for calling in from Happy Homemaker and leaving a comment, much appreciated! It was fun, a great idea of Laura's. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, love Linda x
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful song. Thank you for visiting my blog and pleased to introduce you to a new food that can feed so many.
ReplyDeleteGreat choice, LindyLouMac. I love Zucchero.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite day to visit you! I might as well stay awhile and enjoy the music! Thanks Lindy Lou! You are the best friend! ♥
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful song. I had never heard that before.
ReplyDeleteGreat song today! I am glad that you are carrying on the Sunday Song tradition even though your blogger friend has ceased her posts for now.
ReplyDeleteI also love that you take the time to post both the Italian and English lyrics for each song...it really helps me improve my Italian vocabulary - something I am always trying to do! Ironically, "zucchero" happens to be be one of my favorite Italian words! Grazie!
I'm not a fan of April Fools... it just requires a lot of effort to work out which things are jokes!! But maybe I'm just boring ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat song! As someone who desperately needs to buy one, I am impressed with Zuc's huge collection of hats! :-)

I love listening to songs in another language and not know what the words mean...it makes me pay more attention to the melody and feel of the song.
ReplyDeleteI was new to Natasha's blog so I was very sad to see her go, too.
Twenty years ago, in Russia, Zucchero was super-popular, just like many other Italian musicians. I remember listening to his songs over and over. Thank you for your post.
ReplyDeleteThis might be the first time I have heard of Zucchero, but I am not very good about keeping up with names. He has a lovely soft voice - easy listening. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteYes, Natasha will be missed - she had a lovely blog.
Thanks everyone for your comments about this weeks Sunday Song, they make it all worthwhile :)
ReplyDeleteYour post reminded me that I want to do an update on my blog about him. As you know, he lives in Lunigiana, Northern Tuscany, and the town of Pontremoli bestowed a special honour on him on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Italian Unification to thank him for his contributions to the local community. He is very generous. Also, he is going on tour again - the first time in ages.
ReplyDeleteitalytutto@ I will look forward to reading that article, there is a link in this post to the full list of tour dates. :)
