Forest Fires - Incendi di Boschi
It was very hot over the weekend maybe even the hottest of the summer season as our thermometer in the shade in the garden reached 42C on Sunday afternoon with the minimum temperature overnight on Saturday night not having dropped below 25C. With these temperatures and the exceedingly dry conditions it was no real surprise to see yet another fire burning locally yesterday afternoon. These photos were taken from our terrace of the fire, the helicopter dropping the water and going down to the luckily nearby Lago di Bolsena to collect the water with which to do so.
Sadly fires like this one have been a common site around the region and in fact all over Italy this summer.

Do hope no one has suffered in this fire. Shame they happen but very common in parts of the world.
ReplyDeleteGlad you have the lake water resource nearby during these emergencies. The forest fires
ReplyDeleteare worrying as well as sad for the environment. Hope you manage to stay cool during the very hot weather. It's very humid over here where we are in the UK.
How terrible to see all these fires. We had one here too. On a much smaller scale mind, but it just goes to show how hot and dry it really is.
ReplyDeleteThat's not good. I also hope that no one would be suffered.
ReplyDeleteMorning, we have had it very hot over the weeken. We were in Brighton and Rottingdean on Saturday meeting friends from London and it was sooooo hot!!! Not even much of a sea breeze. There are often heath fires near here but I think this year with all the rain it hasn't happened.
ReplyDeleteOne of my followers lives in Colorado and I know the fires have been terrible there.
Keep safe and well, Jackie in Surrey.
Hello:
ReplyDeleteSuch fires as this one are, we know, very alarming and can so easily get out of hand. Temperatures all over southern Europe seem to have been extreme of late. It certainly has been so here in Hungary, prompting our escape to Venice this week, to which we often go, in the hope of it being a little closer near to the sea.
Hello, I hope no one was hurt during these fires. They are pretty scary to me. The USA has been having various wildfires in different states. Some started from lightning and some from careless people. I hope all is well with you and your place, have a great day.
ReplyDeleteLinda, I know how you feel in these burning temperatures! The world seems to be getting hotter.
ReplyDeleteDuncan In Kuantan
France also has them at the moment. The big fire on the West coast they have discovered was caused by a cigarette butt. People are so careless. Diane
ReplyDeleteYou have real hot there! Terrible with these fires!!! Lots of water needed!
ReplyDeleteThe fire engines roared up our road at 0430 on Friday - quite terrifying at that hour. I lay and waited, mentally packing the car with the most precious items......but the fire was contained.
ReplyDeleteIt must be very frightening to have fires actually on your doorstep. We are having very hot weather too, but not anywhere near as hot as Italy.
ReplyDeleteSo scary. We have had fires here too. It seems many are suffering with fires because of the lack of rain. xo
ReplyDeleteChe tristezza vedere la distruzione (spesso dolosa) di ettari ed ettari di boschi... :(
ReplyDeleteThat's a real sad view from your garden. These fires are terrible hopefully it's not windy !
ReplyDeleteGosh, seems the world is on fire. The weather patterns are just crazy everywhere!
ReplyDeleteYou know, this is the first year in Maine, that I remember it being so humid/hot..It has been awful. I am trying to get things done and it is taking all the energy I have..Have not blogged much..now that we have a little cool weather, trying to catch up on everyone.
ReplyDeleteHope all is well with you and yours..You may not hear from me, but always in my thoughts..xoCarolyn
A few years back we had bush fires here in Victoria - the most tragic for many decades. Most of the forests have regenerated but scars remain, especially with those who lost homes, friends or family.
ReplyDeleteNo doubt this is a very sad sequence, often repeated this summer. Saludos.
ReplyDeletewe have had a dry winter here, and so I don't look forward to summer. I think fires are unfortunately going to be more frequent. I hope this last fire didn't come to close to you. My son is involved in forest fire-control over the summer through his work.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week, take care, and thanks for popping over to my blog to say hi! Always wonderful to hear from you!
My, that looks awfully close. I can imagine it's very unsettling to have it so nearby. Stay safe and I do so hope there is a break in the weather for you. – g
ReplyDelete...Sadly fires seem to be a part of long hot Summers .... 42* that's extreme.... I'm sure you're all hoping for a cool change to revive your spirits.
ReplyDeleteIt must be very scary to have those fires so near to you. It sounds like it is pretty hot!
ReplyDeleteYou got some great pictures here. Hope it cools down for you soon.
I know this has to be scary! I would never want to see this sight from our home.
ReplyDeleteWe had a lot of marsh fires this past year. The Interstate was actually closed for days when the smoke was so thick it wasn't visible for drivers.
The western United States has had a tough time with forest fires this year too. I hope you stay safe!
ReplyDeleteJust heard about the fires on tv. We pray for rain!!!
ReplyDeleteWe've been having controlled burns around here in preparation for summer. I hope they keep these ones under control and that you are safe. XO
ReplyDeleteSeems this is a common problem in many places right now. I have lost count of the number of fires going on in my own country due to the drought conditions and excessive heat.
ReplyDeleteAïe! Must be pretty scary seeing the signs of a fire so close to home!
ReplyDeleteSpain's been having a really bad summer with major forest fires this year... It's tragic seeing all the images of charred (or flaming) trees we get in just about every news broadcast (daily!). Seems worse this year than previous ones. Several areas I hiked last Fall-Winter-Spring have gone up in flames, I wonder what I will find when I hit the trails again next month? :o(
