Our Garden in March - Il Nostro Giardino in Marzo

Last year from February until September I published a regular post on News From Italy entitled 'Our Garden' at the end of every month. It was a popular feature and I have decided that now the plants have caught up after The Big Freeze in Lazio and that Spring has finally arrived it should be revived.

I hope you will enjoy sharing these collages of photos taken around our garden this month.

First to show colour were the daffodils with the first ones blooming at the very start of March, with the different varieties spread throughout the month. As I write they are all but over now, nothing is lasting very long this Spring with the combination of warmth and no rain to speak of.  Everyone has started watering, mainly their vegetables of course, but it is very early to need to do so!

Our Persimmon Tree.
One of our Walnut Trees.
Our Orto.

The fruit trees have given us beautiful displays of blossom this month with the Apricot the first to emerge closely followed by the Peach and the Cherry

Last month the leaves on our Camellia were looking very burnt and I really had not much hope for the blooms, but they survived and are actually looking better than normal, as often the Spring rains ruin them, not this year.

Some general views of the garden.

Other splashes of Spring colour were provided by a mixture of plants both cultivated and wild.
Cerinthe, Wallflowers and Tulip photographed early morning 30th March 2012.
White Irises, Sweetpeas and Blue Irises photographed early morning 30th March 2012.

The interested gardeners and photographers amongst you will find the full album on Flickr.  Our Garden in March 2012 where the photos can be viewed in a larger format.

I also have a lot of Spring flower photographs that I have not shared here but will be doing so on my photography blog.      LindyLouMac's World in Photos

Have a lovely weekend wherever you are in the world and however you plan to spend your time.

  1. Greta collages, this time of the year is gorgeous and i can't stop admiring Nature waking up, everyday there is new bud, a new leaf...and the daffodils are already fading! But the blue bells start blooming...

    1. This is all I need to hear and you are the third person to warn me of an issue with comments this evening. I am not at all technical so goodness knows how I will sort this out. Is it all worth it, this is the sort of thing that puts me off blogging. I suppose I will have to ask on the blogger help forum and hope I understand the answer. Thanks so much for drawing my attention to the problem.

If anyone reading this can help me to resolve the problem I would be so grateful.

  2. I have also just been diverted to an ad, in fact I almost gave up trying to load this post.
Your garden is way out in front of ours, I suspect there will be no flowers on our camelia this year and I am beginning to wonder if we will get any figs this year. The end of every branch on both trees look like they have been burnt!! :(( Diane

  3. I have also being having problems being directed to an advert whenever I comment on your blog. I thought that it must be me pressing the wrong key!

What an amazing garden you have! Do you do it all yourselves or do you have help? Your garden is weeks ahead of ours in almost every way possible.

  6. Absolutely lovely photos - isn't Spring wonderful.
I have been having trouble with Blogger too when commenting. My comments have not been posted. Is it anything to do with the message on our Dashboard saying Blogger is getting a new look in April. Upgrade Now. Does anyone know what that is all about?

  15. Good morning, what a beautiful idea! I like looking at pictures of flowers! Also this year I finally have some flowers, especially daffodils. I only get 3 or 4 types, but I hope to increase the variety. I also planted many tulips, and bought here and in Germany, are very beautiful. good weekend, hello

  16. Beautiful, Linda! How encouraging to see that your garden has bounced back from the dramatic weather you had not that long ago. But nature always seems to recover. I'm intrigued by the apricot blossoms – we don't have any here. Something I will have to seek out to photograph!

Not long until we are in your side of the world. Spending some time in Venice in April.

Hope your weekend is filled with beauty. – g

    1. Thankyou for doing this, you probably noticed comments above from others who are having problems. So does this mean that the problems are with them and not my blog? They obviously are only encountering this when they visit News From Italy though.

  18. This is what the forum suggests you do if you have problems commenting.

As far as I can tell your blog and comments are working perfectly.

The next time someone has the problem, ask them to take a screenshot of the issue and then post it here so we can see.

  30. Your garden is already quiet blooming, we are a little behind although the last two weeks of sunshine and warm weather has let lots of season flowers bloom. Unfortunately now it's quiet cold again and they even announced frost. I havn't planted flowers yet I wait for mid April. But our bushes are blooming.

  32. Hello Lindy, I just went straight into your comment box this time and thank you for the link!
I also sent a feedback complaint to Blogger from my blog as I had the same problem with 3 other blogs today.
The crazy thing with yours is that it took me 3 attempts (been redirected from 1 junk to another junk site!!) before reaching your Comments, and I pointed out to Blogger that this will stop people from commenting if no from blogging eventually!
I also spoke with my webmaster and he told me that these sites were using specific programs to "highjack" others sites to put some junk.
He told that we should clear the cookies from our computers, just keep those that we need and have been installed by reliable sites that we use regularly. I think i'll try this.
I am using AVG, and all my functions (pop-ups blocks etc...) are activated but don't seem to stop these!!
    Kind regards, DeeBee

  38. *stupid Blogger - it hates me!!!*

Simply stunning and gorgeous photos!!! We're not as far along as you guys, but Spring is definitely here in the Veneto region! My allergies are so bad this year and I'm nearly clawing my eyes out. Seems they get worse each year! I'm hoping for some rain to wash most of the pollen away!!

  39. Nothing says springtime better than Daffodils (of course being welsh and the daffs being the national flower I am even more drawn to them!)
Stunning collages, Linda. You should print and frame them.

  45. Thank you for visiting my blog. I had a pleasant though short visit with my mom. I hope to see her again a few times before the Fall season.

Your garden looks wonderful. That requires a lot of dedication and work on the part of you and your husband. Though I love to look at and enjoy the fragrance of a garden, I'm afraid I am not one who would be able to garden so extensively. It is nice that people do so the rest of us can enjoy :-)

  50. gorgeous gorgeous colours in your garden Lindy. And those views of your garden! now I am really envious! although the work would probably send me reeling! LOL I have read various books about people doing what you have done - moved to Italy or France or somewhere.... But to know someone who actually did it. Oh sigh. How lucky you must feel! I myself must be content with the Mediterranean corner of my garden where I go and smell the lavenders.
Have a wonderful week. and thankyou for stopping by my blog to say hi.

  65. Daffodils! Feels like ages since I've seen them - I've never noticed them here in Italy. At home in England I had lots in my garden. I've no idea what the strain was called, but they had ragged, multi-layered petals which were white on the outside and egg-yolk orange in the middle.

    Lovely photos. Thanks for sharing.
