San Pellegrino in Fiore

San Pellegrino in Fiori is an Annual Show which takes place in the the narrow streets of the medieval quarter of Viterbo. Local businesses mainly of a floral nature, although some shop keepers and B and B proprietors do participate, decorate the squares, streets and stairways with floral displays.

It has been noticeable in recent years that the recession has taken its toll and that displays are not as lavish as they used to be, however it is still worth visiting as a lot of work goes into the event.  It is not just a flower display but a chance to purchase plants, local produce and the work of local artists and other artisans.

We visited this year on Sunday afternoon not a particularly pleasant day weather wise but it did not rain while we strolled around the centro storico and despite the dullness I managed to take what I felt were some reasonable photos, certainly enough to find a selection to share with you here.

We also caught a display of flag throwing which took place in the Piazza del Plebiscito which was rather impressive. It is difficult to convey the skill required in these photographs. I have also included the video I shot, only marching as by the time I remembered the video facility they had finished throwing.  I am still very new to this action filming, as the camera was new not long before our trip to China!

Marta Lakeside - All Change Update Number One

When I was in Marta last Thursday morning I went to take a look at how the work was progressing. Although there has been a lot of work done since that stormy dark day last month Marta Lakeside - All Change when I first posted about this project, there still looks an awful lot of work to be done I think. I was also rather surprised that everything was at a complete standstill on Thursday morning, not a worker in sight, just the solitary duck from my Friday Foto

It was a relief though to see that the trees have at least been replaced.

It is now looking feasible that the work may just be completed by mid May in time for Marta's most important festival the ‘Festa delle Madonna del Monte.’(link to my newsletter for June 2009 in which I very briefly mentioned this important Marta Festa. This year I hope to be able to cover the event more comprehensively.

With less than two weeks to go now there is still a lot to be done!

So far so good I think this will all look very attractive once completed.

Sunday Song - The Beatles singing in Italian!

Paperback Writer sung in Italian is my choice for today, so if you have never heard the Beatles singing in Italian before now is your chance.

It has been raining here this morning which after a sunny week is a bit of a disappointment as it is my Birthday today. It has brightened up a little so if the rain holds off we plan to to go and see San Pellegrino in Fiore (Flower Festival in Viterbo) later  this afternoon and then out for a meal this evening to celebrate.

I hope you are all enjoying the Bank Holiday weekend.

Our Garden in April - Il Nostro Giardino in Aprile

The garden has probably been at its most attractive this month, although it is something we will be working on to try and improve so that we have some colour somewhere in the garden throughout the year.

It has been very difficult to choose just a small selection of photos for you to see this month. If you are a keen gardener, or maybe just interested anyway, I invite you to look at my full selection of photos taken in the garden so far this year by clicking on this blue link.  Our Garden April 2010

These are a few of my favourites from this month. I also used some from this album for my Friday Fotos this month, Magnolia, Apricot Blossom and Tulips

It is May 1st Labour Day or Festa dei Lavoratori and is a public holiday so I intend to relax and enjoy our garden and the sunshine while it lasts as rain is forecast for tomorrow.
