Il Caminetto - Montefiascone

Recently it was the birthday of a good friend of ours and to celebrate the occasion four of us went out for a special meal.  We wanted to try somewhere new to all of us and Il Caminetto Resort which has opened recently is somewhere our friends have long thought looked an interesting place, when driving past. It was then recommended to them by other mutual friends who have eaten there and were impressed.  It was therefore we all felt definitely worth trying and for me especially with my love of sunsets its unique position overlooking the lake meant it had so much going for it.  Under new management the building has been decorated in a unique manner using beautiful colours and furnishings that create a delightful environment.

With it's position overlooking the Lago di Bolsena from a height of 540 metres above sea level the views are absolutely stunning.

The restaurant is small but that was part of its charm as was the hand written menu which was not easy to decipher without the help of the staff, but it was much more interesting to discuss ones meal with the restaurateur. The dishes are all local specialities that change with the seasons. Besides this restaurant the resort does also have facilities for large functions and a veranda cafe on the premises, as well as offering eight individually decorated bedrooms. The latter I have only seen on the internet site but they certainly look sumptuous.

Just wait till you see some of the photographs I took that evening and have visited the website for yourself. I think those of you already here in Italy, especially those in the locality will be beating a path to its door. It is very easy to find at KM marker 102 on the Cassia Nord just outside Montefiascone on the road towards Bolsena.

For the rest of you sorry to keep telling you about places that you can only at this time visit virtually, but then that is what reading my blog is all about isn't it. Getting to enjoy in a small way the little bit of Italy that we are currently lucky enough to be living in and thanks to the wonders of the internet am able to share with you in this fun way.

May it even inspire some of you to come and visit us soon in Italy.   The blue links within the text will take you to the restaurants own website and to my own album of photos on  Flickr - Il Caminetto

I really hope that you will have the time to look at my full album of photos taken that evening at this simply stunning location Il Caminetto Montefiascone. The sunset fans amongst you, of which I know there are quite a few, will I think be especially interested.

Remember to check out the website Il Caminetto Resort for the full experience.

  7. Anne- It looks like it might be working! The food was delicious but I cannot recall exactly what the other couple had, although one of them had boned rabbit which was apparently delicious. The pictures were of the food we had a mixed fried fish and an anchovy dish for anti's then for secondo we both had beef, mine was the steak, it was all mouthwatering. Enticing and tempting ,jolly good.
My list of places to visit now reads like an encyclopaedia!

  11. Thanks Diane. It has been a difficult day with comment confusion, so I appreciate your second attempt. I have in fact turned off moderation for now as it seemed that was the main problem!
I knew you would go for the sunset, there are some more of that sunset on Flickr, if you get time do take a look, as I know you like sunsets as much as i do.

  17. Some Birds - Both the interior and the views from Il Caminetto are simply stunning.

Jo - I would say it would be a lovely place to take your family. The menu was just one hand written card so I can not say for sure. It was difficult to read and it was far more fun to discuss the menu with the staff. I think it is the sort of place that would be very flexible towards its customers requirements. You could always contact them first. I think the number is on the website, if not I have it.

Jennifer - It was divine and a great place to spend time. Thanks for visiting and commenting.

Lakeviewer - There is also a cafe/bar so it is possible to stop by just for a drink and to soak up the view.

Martha - Definitely A* so glad we have discovered this gem.

Angela - Welcome, delighted you found your way here and commented, it is much appreciated. We did have a lovely evening and are so pleased to have found this new restaurant.
