Festa della Repubblica - Giugno - 2 - 2010 - Italia

Photo found on internet but with sadly no credits to a photographer.

Today is a Bank holiday in Italy to celebrate the formation of the Italian Republic sixty four years ago when the Italians voted for a republican form of government instead of their Monarchy.
It was decided by a majority vote of just over two million. It was not until 1949, three years later that the day was made an official holiday, it was abolished again in 1977 and then reinstated in 2001.
In Rome today and other major cities around Italy there will be celebrations.
This morning at 9am in Rome there is a ceremonial laying of a wreath at The Tomb of The Unknown Soldier, followed at 10am by a traditional military parade. Representatives' from the Armed Forces, Fire and Ambulance Services and the various Police Forces of Italy take place in the parades and in the afternoon band concerts held in the gardens of the Quirinal Place

I have included a video I found on YouTube of the Italy Parade held last year.

03 June 2009 — A grand military parade through central Rome was the highlight of country-wide celebrations marking Republic Day.

  8. Hi LindyLouMac Sweetie...
How wonderful the parade was. I loved watching the planes leave your glorious colors of green, white and red across the sky. I bet it must be beautiful to stand below and watch.

I loved the parade. I loved watching all the horses that carried the men. You don't see a lot of use of horses here in the states. I also loved watching what I believe were the nurses. Their uniforms were quite interesting. So different than what I am used to seeing.

Thank you for sharing with me today. I so needed a break. Thank you for your prayers and for visiting me. It means so much. I pray you have a beautiful day and thank you for taking me to Italy today. I had the BEST time ever.

    Country hugs sweetie...Sherry
